OPSB to Use 2021-25 Strategic Plan to Assist in Superintendent Search

At the recent Committee of the Whole meeting, the Orleans Parish School Board did not have a formal Superintendent Search Committee meeting during the session, the board did affirm using the 2021-25 Strategic Plan to serve as a guide to assist in the NOLA Public Schools Superintendent Search moving forward. While some parts of the plan are currently underway, the plan will mostly serve as a resource to assist the committee when working with the potential selected search firm to guide questions for candidates, as well as serve as a snapshot of the district for potential future candidates. OPSB Discusses Superintendent Search on WBOK

Recently, Orleans Parish School Board President Ethan Ashley joined The Good Morning Show with Sally-Ann Roberts on WBOK 1230 AM in New Orleans to discuss the search for the next superintendent for NOLA Public Schools and a range of other topics. WBOK is one of the oldest and longest-running black-owned radio stations in the country, originating out of the campus of Xavier University. The 30-minute interview discusses the search, how the community will be able to be involved with the search and future plans for the district.

OPSB Holds Training Session With Focus on Anti-Bias Hiring Practices

On Tuesday, September 21, the Orleans Parish School Board hosted a training session for board members with Beloved Community, a New Orleans-based non-profit consulting firm, on debiasing selection and hiring processes. The one-hour session allowed board members to hear from a local organization leading the way in diversity, equity and inclusion practices. Beloved Community presented ways to reduce bias in hiring, having inclusive talent recruitment practices and more, while also allowing the board to ask questions throughout the session to dive deeper into discussion topics. The training will assist the board in working to identify the search firm that will help with hiring the next superintendent for NOLA Public Schools. OPSB Holds September Superintendent Search Committee Meeting

The Orleans Parish School Board hosted its September meeting of the Superintendent Search Committee at the OPSB offices in Algiers. Following Hurricane Ida, the committee decided to pause the search for the next superintendent for NOLA Public Schools as the city and area began the recovery process, including finding a search firm to assist with the process. On Tuesday, they announced that the search would resume and that a second request for proposal (RFQ) would be published and posted with an updated timeline to acquire a search firm following the pause in the search.
