The Orleans Parish School Board on Thursday at their board meeting announced that they have received a commitment from the Greater New Orleans Foundation (Foundation) for a grant of $140,000 to support costs associated with the search for the next superintendent for NOLA Public Schools. The grant will cover the costs associated with publicizing, recruiting, and interviewing candidates for the position.

“We are extremely grateful to the Greater New Orleans Foundation for their generous grant. The Foundation’s commitment to the success of this process will allow our board to conduct an extremely thorough search for the visionary, equity-minded leader that our students deserve,” said Ethan Ashley, District 2 Orleans Parish School Board member and chair of the Superintendent Search Committee.

The next superintendent will lead a school system of more than 46,000 students and 70 schools. Current Superintendent Dr. Henderson Lewis has announced that he will step down from the role in June of 2022 after seven years in the role.

“This grant is an investment in a strong future for the students of NOLA Public Schools,” said District 3 School Board member and newly-elected Board President Olin Parker. “The leadership at the Greater New Orleans Foundation recognizes that we need continued partnership between public, philanthropic, and private entities to ensure that all students succeed. The entire board is so thankful to the Foundation for its leadership.”

The Greater New Orleans Foundation serves as the community foundation for the 13-parish Greater New Orleans region and is dedicated to driving positive impact through philanthropy, leadership, and action.

“Our organization has been investing in civic leadership projects to address the needs of our community for nearly 100 years, and supporting the School Board in their search for the next superintendent of NOLA-PS does just that. Finding the right leader for New Orleans students is critically important, and the Foundation is thrilled to play our part in this process,” said Andy Kopplin, President and CEO of the Greater New Orleans Foundation.

The Orleans Parish School Board selected Greenwood/Asher & Associates to lead the search for the next superintendent of NOLA-PS. Greenwood/Asher & Associates is a woman-led search firm that specializes in searches for the educational and non-profit sector.  The grant from the Greater New Orleans Foundation will be used to cover the costs of this contract, whose work will continue to be overseen directly by the OPSB board. The Foundation will have no role in the selection of the superintendent.  For a detailed overview of the superintendent search, including a feedback form, calendar of the process, and links to previous meetings and documents, visit nolasuperintendentsearch.com.
